About Me
I am currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky's Department of Communication. In May of 2023 I completed studies and achieved my Ph.D. in Communications Studies at the University of Southern California Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. This has been the culmination of a long and established career as a practitioner of journalism, public relations, and crisis communications.
After experiencing and leading the responses to several high-profile mishaps during my U.S. Navy career, I noticed that there was a gap between communication, crisis, and risk theories and applied practice. I decided to leave my military career and dedicate my life to becoming an expert in applied solutions to high reliability team communication failures.
While I fully understand that a goal of zero preventable fatalities in high reliability teams may be unattainable at this point in time, it is my hope that if my research cannot solve this problem in my lifetime, that it perhaps might create a path for future scholars to do so.
